Community Concepts Improves Board Governance with $10,000 Grant from NeighborWorks America

Community Concepts today announced it has received a $10,000 grant from NeighborWorks America in recognition of its work to build a stronger and more effective board of directors. Effective boards of directors have been shown to be essential to a nonprofit community development corporation’s ability to efficiently deliver services to area residents over the long term.

“Community Concepts’ Board and senior leadership learned so much over the past year and half as we participated in the NeighborWork’s Excellence in Governance program that will directly contribute to making the organization stronger,” said Tara Davis, Community Concepts Board Chair. “With the new grant, we will be putting in place increased accountability mechanisms and focusing on continued training opportunities for board members.”

Community Concepts is one of 15 nonprofits from across the country participating in the most recent round of the NeighborWorks Excellence in Governance program.

“The community should know that our organization is continually striving to live up to the standards of every great organization, and this recognition by the national network NeighborWorks shows we are achieving our objectives,” said Shawn Yardley, Community Concepts CEO.

The 18-month program is designed to help nonprofit executives and board members transition from responsible to exceptional. How they do that is determined by each participating organization based on its mission and the community it serves.

“The Excellence in Governance program assists boards and executive leaders in building greater cohesion that results in more efficient and effective organizations that have greater impact in the communities they serve,” said NeighborWorks America President and Chief Executive Officer Marietta Rodriguez.
